Muse 2012 Released

The summer 2012 edition of Muse magazine was released November 29, 2012. There was a nice release party on the Heartland Community College campus with free food and I was given a free copy of the magazine. I want to thank my friends Marion, Sabrina, and Gaby for showing up for the event and it was nice seeing Thomas again. This year's Muse layout was much better than last year's Muse layout in my opinion and I really liked how they presented my two submissions in the magazine.

I slacked off a bit for a couple of weeks on my first Sawaporn issue, but now I'm busy working on it again.

Anyway, it's finally December, which is my favorite time of the year. I hope it gets really cold.

Here is a song that always reminds me of cold winter evenings. It is "Lack Of Sense" by Tribantura (1987). I originally discovered this in December of 2006:

Here is the song "Seabird, Seamoan (remix)" by Belfegore (1984). The album version isn't on Youtube as far as I know, but this version is good too. I originally discovered this in December of 2006:

Here is the song "Der Goldene Reiter" by Joachim Witt (1981). I originally discovered this in December of 2006:

Halloween 2012

Happy Halloween!!

I'm still working on the first story. I was going to continue it tonight. I plan on starting issue 8 in early December.

The "Summer 2012" edition of Muse magazine will be released November 13, 2012. I'm looking forward to it.

Here's a fan-made video of "Everyday Is Halloween" by Ministry (1984):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0r2xpGT4fQ&feature=colike
This was the first song I liked by Ministry before discovering "Same Old Madness" (1981), "With Sympathy" (1983), "Twitch" (1986), and "The Land Of Rape And Honey' (1988).

Here's the song "The Last Song" by Trisomie 21 (1986):
http://youtu.be/lFo0prMyCP0
This is my favorite version of this song. As far as I know, there are at least three versions.

And here is the song "Autopsy Performing" by Kilslug (1983):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPhiMWnWsf4&feature=colike
I discovered this song six-years-ago tomorrow.

And here is the song "The Lebanon" by The Human League (1984):
http://youtu.be/To-ejz6tiDw

Finally, here is "Fear Of The Dark" by Scars (1981):

I think I will watch the silly "Halloween 3" or "Night Of The Creeps" tonight.

Muse, October, Photography, & Issue #1

The 2012 Summer edition of the local Muse magazine has been postponed until November for some reason. There will be a release party at the Heartland Community College campus and I will be attending.

The two drawings selected for publication in the 2012 edition of Muse magazine are :

and:

Anyway, I am glad that it is finally October. October, November, and December have always been my favorite months throughout the year. It's cold surprisingly early this year. It would be great if the cold stuck around. I hope we have a powerful and long winter with over-the-top blizzards. Last year was disappointing due to the lack of actual cold and snow. It seemed like autumn of 2011 and spring of 2012 were just one season. It was the worst winter in my life so far. Despite last year's lame winter, I find that it is easier to concentrate on my art in the time period of late autumn/early winter. A cold landscape is inspiring.

I am debating buying new film for my old Canon AE-1 camera and taking photos of the nearby Constitution Trail as the leaves of the trees experience their massive death. I haven't used my camera for many months now simply because film is becoming increasingly expensive. I still take pictures with my digital camera, but it's a cheap digital camera and I've always had an appreciation for the look of film. I also discovered through calling around that black and white film is almost no longer sold anywhere in this town. The only exception is the Ilford HP5 Plus brand sold at the Heartland Community College campus. This film type is what I started out on and I enjoy it, but unfortunately it is difficult to have developed without a dark room. I would have to send the film to Chicago to have it developed and printed and that is very expensive. Sending it away and having it developed and printed in Chicago takes two weeks per roll as well.

I am currently still working on the official issue number one of the Sawaporn graphic novel series. I still haven't come up with a title for the whole graphic novel series. The original working title was "Atheist Thai Girl."

Here's the song "Domingo" by Yello:
http://youtu.be/2SWLZgBzYAQ
This is from the album "Stella" (1985) and it is one of my favorite albums in general.

Here's the song "Something To Do" by Depeche Mode (1984):
http://youtu.be/xdFI-KwqU3c
This is one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs from the album "Some Great Reward" (1984).

And here is the song "Man From China" by Vivabeat (1980):
http://youtu.be/0BooNPLVk-w
This is their best song in my opinion and it is from the album "Party In The War Zone" (1980). The Youtube video says it was from 1979, but Discogs states that it was actually 1980.

I discovered both of the albums "Stella" (1985) by Yello and "Some Great Reward" (1984) by Depeche Mode six years ago today, October 8, 2006 in two separate nearby pawn shops. I also discovered the song "Man From China" by Vivabeat six years ago today while using the Internet at my local public library.

I am still waiting for the completion of the newest Feminist Frequency project. Lately, I watched "Antichrist" (2009) by Lars Von Trier and Paul Thomas Anderson's new film "The Master" (2012). Both of these were really good films.

I'm still working on issue #1 (official). There are three reasons why I'm moving slowly with this latest issue. The first is I've been a bit busier recently, which is finally changing, and secondly I want to go slowly through this one to make sure I don't invent continuity errors. After all, this story takes place before the first six I did between May 2010 through March 2012. Finally, I've procrastinated and watched a bunch of horror\sci-fi films from the 1970's and 1980's lately (about one a day) since I've had decent Internet access lately.

I remain indecisive about Sawaporn's surname. I feel it should be longer and more difficult to remember. Though I have a default surname in mind, I think of her as Sawaporn S. for now.

I posted the second panel from page 27 of issue six of my Sawaporn series on DeviantArt.
http://deadavalanche.deviantart.com/art/Sitting-In-The-Stairwell-329039850
This is the first thing I've posted on my DeviantArt page since April 11, 2012. This is the first complete image I've released from the actual series onto the Internet.

Anyway,
I really enjoyed this video by Cristina Rad (zomgitscriss) so I'll post it here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI2yf9aueBA&feature=share&list=UUupX3k88Z1cRYCDuCPrmxlg

I am anxiously awaiting for the completion of this project:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8I0Wy58adM&feature=share&list=UU7Edgk9RxP7Fm7vjQ1d-cDA
This is a video series called Feminist Frequency hosted by Anita Sarkeesian that I follow. The link above promotes the latest project which is an examination of common female tropes in video games.

And listen to this for some reason:
"Feel Me (12 inch mix)" by Blancmange (1982).

One more thing, I am very glad autumn is finally here.

Muse Magazine

Two more of my drawings are being published in the upcoming 2012 edition of Muse magazine. One of the drawings is on my Deviant Art page. It is drawing of my protagonist Sawaporn playing chess with death. This is a reference to Ingmar Bergman's film "The Seventh Seal" (1957). Sawaporn has replaced the actor Max Von Sydow in my drawing.

The second picture has not been uploaded to the Internet yet. It is a scene from my fifth issue with no dialogue. It is Sawaporn sitting in her stairwell with a bleeding lip and pepper spray in her eyes and a sad facial expression.

I have been listening to the album "Tinderbox" (1986) by Siouxsie And The Banshees a lot lately along with early Cocteau Twins and randomly a Chinese new wave/synth-punk band called Queen Sea Big Shark.

Here is the song "This Unrest" by Siouxsie And The Banshees. This is one of my favorite songs from my favorite Siouxsie And The Banshees album. I randomly discovered this album back in August of 2004 in a local music shop.

Issue #6, Coming Intro Story, & Some Introspective Stuff

I want to complete every illustration in the sixth Atheist Thai Girl issue before I do the Introduction story. Once I do this one, what was originally issue #1 when I started this nearly two years ago will be bumped up to issue #2. So the most current issue, which is #6, will actually become issue #7. I'm sure I only need one issue for the Introduction.

The reason I started part way into the storyline, rather than at the beginning, is because I wasn't certain how I should introduce the storyline. I always had trouble starting a new storyline. I enjoyed developing the story though and was already aware of the direction it needed to go. So, I started "issue #1" (which will be issue #2 once the intro story is finished) as the protagonist was walking through town and she saw an ad for an art show, which led to many horrible doors opening up in her life.

There have been moments when I could start a storyline from the beginning, but more often I would pick what I viewed as "Act II" and start drawing from there. I don't know why I was more comfortable with this. I still have a lot of finished and unfinished stories from my childhood and teen years. Some of them were started at the beginning and some in the middle. Where I started seemed to have almost no impact on whether or not I finished the damn thing.

I will start posting this entire graphic novel series one issue at a time after I complete the introduction story. This should take place during the summer months. I do not know how else to reveal my work to people.

I recently looked through the first three issues I had drawn from May-June 2010, July-October 2010, and October-November 2010. In late 2010, the artwork looked fine to me. Now, the artwork looks a bit primitive to me, or at least the rendition of the protagonist's face and hair along with some other characters. My artwork has improved since then, but I am slightly disappointed (for now) with the illustrations in these earlier works. This happens every year, though. In December of 2010, I would look back at December of 2009 and think, "I actually thought THIS looked decent?" I have looked back hundreds of times over many years and acknowledged that I made more progress.

I had some artwork published in late June of 2011. Unfortunately, this artwork was created and submitted in the spring of 2010 and was outdated by the time it was finally printed. These drawings were artistic female nudes. I've never had the opportunity to draw using a live nude female model, so I create the human anatomy from scratch. The flaws present in the drawings from the spring of 2010 were obvious to me when they were published over a year later, and I didn't like the fact that these outdated and flawed things were now representing me. Whatever I draw today that I'm proud of may look poor to me a year or two from now. I think that will continue throughout the rest of my life as I enhance my skill further. Maybe this is a result of teaching oneself rather than being taught by others. No matter what I did, my attempts to seek instruction from teachers or fellow artists did not improve my technique. For some reason I always had to experiment and learn my own way.

One last thing:
I've been in a weird mood over the last few weeks. During this time period and out of boredom I made a Facebook page representing the protagonist with the working title of the character: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sawaporn-Songlakranangpunlapong/224505147663794

Zappa You Doing?

I finished my fourth installment in the Atheist Thai Girl series. It is 34 pages long. I still have to go back and finish the art on 9 of the pages. Lately, I have been trying to organize the details of the Thai woman's life before the moment the series begins in her adulthood just after arriving in America.

I am also trying to plan out the fifth installment in the series. I have multiple ideas, but I am having trouble picking one.

Anyways, I had four drawings published in a local community college magazine called "Muse." I received a free copy of the magazine at its release party. The magazine costs seven dollars for anyone who did not submit art to it.

I am currently listening to "We're Only In It For The Money" (1967) by Frank Zappa/The Mothers Of Invention
